I chose to listen to a session called Games in Education given by Sylvia Martinez. It actually was different than what I expected. I thought it would be about how to use various games in your classroom. It was interesting that she said that 99% of games in the classroom are useless and work the same as a worksheet. The end of the session had her suggesting that the best kind of games in education are those that are designed by the kids themselves so they have control over their own learning. Even 5 year old kids can program their own game. We have to teach it and there are a lot of programs to design your own game – for everybody. Professional development online is a new way to learn and I like it. The session I chose, I think was interesting but I’m not sure if in near future it is possible to put in practice.
